EQUITY TRADER
Equity traders are responsible for buying and selling stocks, bonds, commodities, or other financial instruments. They may work on the floor of an exchange (such as the New York Stock Exchange), in a brokerage firm’s trading room, or remotely via computer terminals.
Equity traders must be able to quickly analyse market trends and make split-second decisions about when to buy or sell. They also need to have strong interpersonal skills—they interact with clients all day long to determine what trades they want to make.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Execute trades in equities, options, and other securities in accordance with established trading strategies
- Monitor real-time market data to identify and capitalize on trading opportunities
- Analyse financial reports and economic indicators to inform trading decisions
- Keep abreast of industry news and developments to anticipate changes in the markets
- Maintain accurate records of all trades and transactions
- Adhere to all regulatory requirements and internal risk management procedures
- Generate ideas for new trading strategies and approaches
- Back-test proposed trading strategies to assess their viability
- Implement approved trading strategies and monitor their performance
- Adjust trading strategies as needed in response to changing market conditions
- Prepare regular reports on trading activity and performance
- Train and mentor junior traders
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, or related field
- 3-5 years’ experience working in the financial industry
- Proven success in equity trading
- Strong understanding of financial markets and investment strategies
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- MBA or other advanced degree
- 7-10 years’ experience working in the financial industry
- CFA or other professional designation
- Extensive knowledge of global financial markets
- Fluency in more than one language
Salary
Average Annual Salary: £110k + Bonus
Top 10% Annual Salary: £180k + Bonus
